PUCPR stands out in THE Impact Rankings 2020
In the 2020 edition of Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, which analyzed the positive social and economic impact generated by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná (PUCPR) was ranked first among all private HEIs in Brazil. In Paraná region, PUCPR won the third place among all public and private institutions that positively impact Brazilian society.
The Impact Rankings considers the progress of universities regarding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the United Nations (UN), which must be met by 2030. Therefore, the Times Higher Education examined all the seventeen UN goals, in 767 universities in 85 countries, using calibrated indicators to provide comprehensive comparisons in the following three major areas: research, extension and management.
According to THE Impact Rankings, the contribution of PUCPR in some of the UN goals allowed the good rank positioning of the University. One of them was related to the third SDG, which seeks to ensure a healthy life and promote well-being for everyone, at all ages. In that matter, the number of professionals graduated at PUCPR from health field, and the research projects developed by the University on this subject, as well as the cooperation between PUCPR and institutions associated with this field were considered and evaluated.
PUCPR also stood out in two other SDGs proposed by the UN: performance related to the eighth SDG, which evaluates aspects such as the percentage of students in the labor market, the work practices adopted by the institution, and the volume of investments made for employees; as well as the University’s efforts on sixteenth SDG, which ponders the institution’s governance measures and its work in partnership with the government – which, according to the UN, are the core of sustainable development.
