Fulbright Brazil’s Executive Director visits PUCPR
The Executive Director of Fulbright Brazil visited PUCPR to discuss projects related to the Institutional Modernization Project (PIM).
Last November 30, the Executive Director of Fulbright Brazil, Prof. Dr. Luiz Valcov Loureiro, paid a visit to our campus, focusing on the actions for the Institutional Modernization Project (PIM) conducted by the Control and Automation Engineering, comprising all Engineering Program at the Polytechnic School.
PIM-PUCPR is one of the eight projects that have been selected to lead the modernization of Engineering Education in Brazil, alongside a selective group such as UNISINOS, Senai CIMATEC, Unifei, UFSCar, UFRJ, UFRGS, and USP. The eight universities are part of the Undergraduate Modernization Program (PMG), funded by Fulbright Brazil, CAPES, and the U.S. Embassy and supported by the National Education Council.
PMG brings American engineering education experts and sends professors and doctoral and postdoctoral students to the USA for exchange experiences involving new teaching methodologies, inspiring curriculum models, and educational technologies.
Dr. Loureiro visited the newly launched X.R. Center. For his visit, he was able to see all labs that received the Fulbright funding – Dick Morley and James Watt labs (LAS 06 and LAS 07). These resources have been applied to modernize these two learning spaces, highlighting challenge-based and project-based learning. The labs have also utilized the funding provided by CAPES for classes that are based on active learning methodologies.
Prof. Loureiro’s feedback was that PUCPR is one of the most progressed institutions in developing competencies in its students. It is highly committed to modernizing Brazilian education, not only engineering education.
