PUCPR at the meeting of Latin American And Caribbean University Rectors: Organizing Hope
On September 20 and 21, Br. Rogério Renato Mateucci, the Rector for PUCPR, has actively participated in the “Meeting of Latin American and Caribbean University Rectors: Organizing Hope” at the Vatican. The event, sponsored by the Red de Universidades para el Cuidado de la Casa Común, brought together approximately 200 participants, with Brazil’s delegation including 41 rectors from both public and private universities. The rectors assembled to discuss humanity’s foremost challenges, emphasizing the need for higher education institutions to contribute solutions to climate change, water resources, biodiversity, unemployment, migration, technology, and technocracy.
During the meeting, Pope Francis called on all attending rectors to commit to comprehensive education, ensuring that young people have access to social and cultural causes, scientific challenges, and opportunities for participation and inclusion. He emphasized the importance of educating young individuals to become choreographers of the dance of life and hope, maintaining a balance between the mind, heart, and hands.
Rector Br. Rogério Mateucci handed Pope Francis a document outlining the University’s initiatives related to the Global Compact on Education. This initiative, spearheaded by the Pope, calls on individuals, institutions, churches, and governments to prioritize education grounded in humanist and supportive values, aiming to transform society.
